Who decides what is natural and what is not?

"We hold that sexual orientation is a ground analogous to sex and that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is not permitted by Article 15, of Indian Constitution.”- High Court Verdict

Kudos and Thanks to Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar, who played an instrumental role in amending sec.377 and decriminalizing gay sex.

I have always been baffled when people talk against homosexuality, what is there to not accept in it, I just don’t get it. I believe that much of the hostility arises because people feel that this is a “lifestyle choice” whereas it is now scientifically proved that it is more of an orientation; this is how they are born. So why condemn someone just because their hormones make them instinctively attracted to individuals of same sex.

Of course much of this mania can be attributed to “Religion”. I feel religion is man-made and in my opinion, the ultimate power be it allah, bhagwan or god, can never propagate discriminating between individuals on any grounds. It is just a misrepresentation of verses from various holy books; on second thoughts I doubt the very authenticity of these holy books. But we will leave this topic for my other blog where I will write my views on religion. Coming back to our present topic, the strongest argument that the people who use religion as an excuse for their immaturity is, that homosexuality is unnatural and comes in the way of creating a new life. Agreed that reproduction is an integral part of love and marriage, but is that the sole objective? Come on guys we 21st century people can do better than this. And we already are facing the problem of overpopulation; homosexuality might just be the answer to our worries. I am not asking anyone to convert to homosexuality; all I want to say is when we have multiple races, genders, and age groups living on the planet. Why is sexuality any different?

Another set of nincompoops are the people who oppose homosexuality because they think it is western culture influence. Now give me a break, haven’t u guys heard of kamasutra and the scriptures on khajarao temple? They are very well a part of Indian culture and have references to homosexuality. So there is nothing new or western about this issue either.

So finally I would just like to plead to all those who read my blog to be a human in the true sense of the word. We do not have any right to call what others do different as unnatural. There are so many homosexuals who leave a dual life, who marry and have kids and live a life of lie till they die. Just imagine their plight when their everyday is a struggle to be accepted as who they are. They not only have to pose a strong front against the harsh judgments of strangers but also have to face the contemptuous behavior of their own family members. Many of them have no option but to commit suicide.

So here’s hoping that soon gay and lesbian marriages would be legalized.
